3 Frequently Asked TWA Questions

Adjusting to having a TWA can be some of the hardest times as a natural. You have to figure out the right products, styles, and how to feel like you with your new hair. This is especially true if you’ve never had short natural hair. With that being said, I took a look at what internet searches bring viewers to YFN the most and chose the top 3 TWA related issues to address:

1.Twist out/ braid out on TWA- With longer natural hair, having definition is not always high up on the priority list. A little frizz can add character. But, with a TWA tight coils really stand out and make any style jump from ordinary to gorgeous! So, I would suggest doing your twists and braid outs on wet well moisturized hair. This way, the curls will be tight, shiny, and hold up in this crazy hot weather. You’ll avoid the frizz and have a head full of beautiful tightly wound curls!

2. TWA hair accessories- When your hair is short, any accessory looks good. I especially love big stand out flowers and bows, head wraps, and detailed head bands. Since your hair is short, it may be difficult to take your work style into a cute night out on the town style. A huge bright red flower, however, can transform your entire look. And don’t stop at accessories that go in your hair. Consider statement earrings and neck scarves as well as fun lipstick and eye liner. They all add to the pizaz of your cropped do.

3. How to keep your TWA moisturized- There isn’t one answer to this. Everyone’s hair is completely different therefore calling for different types of moisturizers. My suggestion is to try out a wide array of products to figure out what works best for you. Try water based, oil based, store bought, organic, homemade, heavy, creamy, pomades, all of them! Eventually, you will find the product or combination of products that works perfectly. Many naturals, including myself, find that olive oil, shea butter, and coconut oil (in moderation) work well. Remember, a little goes a long way and give each product at least a week to show you what its got!
