Simply Amazing Simple Syrup

A summer staple that is usually not given a thought is simple syrup. It is completely versatile and unbelievably easy to make. The syrup dissolves in all your fruity tutti drink concoctions with ease. It’s also great in hot tea, in the cooler weather of course, and any other bland edible that needs some sweetening.

To add some variety to your syrup, you can throw in some mint, basil, or even rosemary. The options are endless!

I’ve been a bit mint crazy lately which prompted this simple syrup recipe. The basic recipe is equal parts water and regular granulated sugar. On a stove top, you bring the mixture to a boil. Once the sugar is completely dissolved, you can transfer the syrup to a cooling place.

To make this mint variation, simply throw in about a handful of fresh mint leaves into the pot before you start your boiling process. Once the sugar is dissolved, take the syrup off of the heat and scoop out the mint leaves. Transfer your mint simple syrup to a cooling container and store in the refrigerator. Simple syrup lasts for about a month in the refrigerator.
